Your care at Eastern Sky Wellness begins with a real conversation.
First appointments are 60-75 minutes, allowing time to understand your story and establish a plan. Follow-up visits are 30-45 minutes, providing time to reflect on what's working and adjust along the way.
This is a collaborative process. By understanding the full picture of what you're experiencing, I can offer tailored recommendations that leave you feeling informed and actively involved in your own care. You're always the driver on your health journey. I'm here as your guide.
Medication Management
Psychiatric medication can have an important role in achieving or maintaining mental health. Understanding and accepting that medication might be needed is sometimes a big step, but it’s not for everyone. Whether you’ve never taken psychiatric medication and just have questions, are on existing medication that might need adjusting, or you’re wanting to try coming off medication — ESW is here to support you. Education about medication benefits and limitations will be discussed in an open and honest manner.
Medication can help many conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar spectrum, and ADHD. They are best viewed as tools in your wellness toolkit, to use along with other coping strategies. For many people medications do the “heavy lifting” and can enable you to better use your existing coping skills or to learn new ones during early and sustained recovery.
ESW also offers psychotropic medication genetic testing through a company called GeneSight. This is a simple at-home DNA test that will look at how your genes may affect medication effectiveness. It can serve as a blueprint for selecting medications based on your genes. It can’t diagnose or “pick the perfect medication”, but is just one more tool in your kit. Insurance may cover some or all of the cost.
Counseling and CBT-I
Eastern Sky Wellness offers supportive therapy as part of most medication visits. Supportive therapy aims to help clients feel understood, respected, and not judged. It involves listening, exploring feelings, and validating or normalizing those feelings. It does not involve intensive psychotherapy or delving deep into the past. It is more about the here and now, about what is showing up in your life today, and allows you a safe space to talk and feel supported.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is a non-medication option for treating insomnia. CBT-I is a psychotherapy treatment that helps people with insomnia improve their sleep by addressing the thoughts and behaviors that cause or worsen their sleep problems. CBT-I is the first-line recommended treatment for insomnia — before medication — by the National Institute of Health, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and others. It can reduce reliance on or help a person discontinue sleep medication. CBT-I is designed to be completed in 6 weeks through one hour weekly sessions.
Julia Gallant, PMHNP completed training for CBT-I through Dr. Gregg Jacobs’s course. Dr. Jacobs is a pioneer in CBT-I and developed his program through Harvard Medical School. He is the author of the groundbreaking book “Say Goodnight To Insomnia”. This therapy is not for everyone and there are some contraindications, but most people with insomnia are good candidates.
